Who are your favorite female Beat writers???? I don’t know enough of that era!! I started listening to the audiobook of James by Percival Everett last night while catching up on housework and it is INCREDIBLE so far!!!
So my absolute favorite is Sylvia Plath. I read The Bell Jar at 18 and it was my Catcher in the Rye moment. There is another whose poetry was just exquisite but I can’t remember her name and my searches aren’t helping me recall her either 😖 I don’t know if I would read any of their works now though. The Beats all seem so lost to me now and there was definitely misogyny. I believe it was Joyce Johnson who wrote a book about her man and “emasculated him” by taking away his car! He couldn’t just go with wind and leave her behind and relied on her to lead him places. Of course I fell into a rabbit hole trying to find all their names again.
